Chapter 6
Joe was confused because he had no idea who the elderly woman was. After the woman and Methos went into the office, Joe followed and stood at the door. Amanda took the wig off and stood up.
"Hi Joe," she said with a grin.
Joe just stood there with his mouth open trying to figure out how to get it working. He started to go out and get Amanda's necklace, but Amanda stopped
him.
"I'm leaving it with you till this mess is cleared up. Someone thought they were killing me when they shot me. I was on my way here to see you when it happened. Luckily no one else saw anything."
Methos asked her, "Did you see or hear anything?"
She answered, "No, they just shot me and when I woke up, my necklace was gone and this note was on my chest."
She handed the note to Methos and he read: #1. "Now what does this mean. It must be someone who doesn't know about Immortals, buy who."
Methos looked at Joe, "Do you have any idea who your enemy is?"
Joe just shook his head. "It's late enough in the day to call Mike. Maybe he has an idea," Joe said as he was reaching for the phone."
After he hung, "He's on his way. I didn't think it was a good idea to talk about this over the phone.."
"Good thinking Joe," Methos said.
Amanda looked at Joe then Methos and watched the way they were looking at each other.
"Ahha, it's finally happened."
Methos looked at her and asked, "What has happened?"
"You let Joe know how you felt and it looks like Joe did the same. It's about time you guys, you've been dancing around each other ever since I've known you," she said to Joe. "In fact, I was going to play matchmaker with you two when I got here, but you beat me to the punch."
After visiting for about 10 minutes, Amanda started putting her wig back on. "I better get going before someone gets suspicious about me being in here. I'll keep in touch by email so no one can trace me."
After standing up, she adjusted the way she stood and then leaned on the walker again. Joe couldn't believe how she looked like a totally different person.
"How did you know her Methos?" Joe asked.
"By the feel of her quickening and the look in her eye. I can tell by the quickening how old a person is and she's the only one I know her age. Older and younger, but not around a thousand," answered Methos. "I don't know of any other Immortal other than Cassandra that can do tell who people are by the quickening."
They all walked out of the office and Amanda sat down at one of the tables. Just as Mike walked in, she hollered, "Hey barkeep, I've been waiting for ever for a drink. Can't you move your body a little faster."
She had disguised her voice to sound like an old woman who was very cross. Mike looked at her and then said, "Madam, I'll get it for you. What do you want?"
"I want a glass of best wine you have on the house," then grumbled under her breathe that this place probably didn't have any decent wine. Mike went and got the wine for her. Looking at Joe in confusion on his way back to her table because Methos was laughing and he could see Joe wanted to laugh also and was struggling to keep it in. He looked at the woman as he sat her wine down.
"Here you go Madam."
Amanda started laughing and turned to Joe and said, "See how good my disguise is. Mike knows me almost as well as you do and he didn't recognize me."
Mike looked at her and said, "No I don't recognize you. I'm sure I've never met you before."
With that Amanda said, "It's me, Amanda. Joe will explain everything to you. I must be going now, I'll get in touch with you, Joe." With that, she finished her wine and then slowly walked out the door leaning on her walker as if it was hard for her to move.
Mike turned to Joe and asked, "What in the world is going on? That can't be Amanda!"
Joe proceeded to explain everything to Mike. He showed Mike the note with the necklace and the note that was pinned on Amanda. "I don't know where Amanda's going, but she'll keep in contact till we find out what's going on. We are going to go over all my known enemies and then look and try to find out why someone is out to hurt me." Joe then turned to Methos and said, "Maybe we better forget about going out to dinner tonight."
Mike piped up, "You aren't going to chicken out now that I'm here. I can cover for you and as long as you are with someone, you are safe."
"Thank you Mike. I agree that he's safe as long as someone is with him," Methos replied. Turning to Joe, "I'm taking you out to dinner one way or another because I have 8:00 reservations that we aren't going to miss. Will it be under your own power, or will I throwing you over my shoulder? Would you like to see the look on peoples faces if I walk in somewhere carrying you?"
Mike is laughing at Joe and the look on his face. "I'd better go if I were you Joe. He sounds like he means it and it'll do you good to just relax and forget about being a watcher and the threats for a few hours."
Joe gruffly told Mike to get to work and went back to his office. He still had a lot of paperwork to finish. Methos turned to Mike, "I've got everything set up for tonight. So you don't have to worry about stocking up. Tell Joe I'll be here to pick him up at 7 so he can be ready."
He turned and left to run some errands of his own. He wanted to start investigating what was going on so he could protect Joe. He felt that Joe and his daughter, Amy was in a lot of danger and wanted to find some answers as soon as possible.
